Hair Cut

I have not had professional pictures taken of my children since Michael was 6 months old. For those of you who are bad with math, that is about 3.5 years.
This is horrible, and I apologize in advance to my adult children for this lapse in parenting.
I made an appointment last week for a long overdue photo session. I had to reschedule it due to my meningitis. (Did I mention I got Viral Meningitis last week? Yes, another byproduct of living in CT. Apparently you can get all kinds of lovely maladies from the ticks around here).

I had rescheduled it for Tuesday morning. I had outfits all selected.
Then I walked into the bathroom on Monday afternoon and discovered this:

That is a LOT of hair. From both children. Kate at least cut hers off from the crown, so it blends in. Michael was not so lucky and now has a rather unfortunate looking hairstyle.

There were no pictures on Tuesday morning.

Rocky Raccoon

I often feel like I have moved to Funny Farm. We have an abundance of deer, wild turkeys, red tailed hawks, foxes, and other critters in our yard. I don't really mind them, except when they eat all my flowers and vegetables. But still, harmless.

Well.
I was walking home from the bus stop the other day and noticed a LOT of flies alighting on something in the yard. Walked a little closer, saw that it was big and hairy. Did not walk any closer after that.

Being the mother of the year that I am, I gave Kate some binoculars and told her to go outside, take a peek, and report back what she saw. She reported a black and grey striped tail, leading us to believe it was a raccoon. Raccoons are cute in cartoons or on the cover of Ranger Rick, but not when they are dead in my yard.

So. Commence my freaking out and trying to figure out how to get dead raccoon out of my yard. Husband was out of town (of course). Dad suggested thick gloves and a lot of garbage bags. Clearly, he does not know me.

Vultures started landing on the deck during dinner and that is when I uh, indulged my inner girl and called danny crying about the dead animals and the birds that eat them all over our yard.

This sets the kids off, who refuse to eat their dinner in case any 'dead raccoons got in it'.

So finally, I get ahold of a pest guy who agrees to come pick up the remains of Rocky Raccoon.
The price of getting a dead animal shoveled out of your hard?

A small $250.

Awesome.

Kate posted this note on our front door. She is ever so helpful.

(Please do not come in our yard. No going that way <-----. There is a dead raccoon in the yard. )

Quick like a Fox

Kate has been playing soccer this spring. She took it in London, but then has not played since then.
She is really quick on the field. She might have a little bit of trouble remembering which goal is hers, and perhaps takes more than a few detours in the stands, but it has been a lot of fun to watch her play. Oh, and she likes to wear her  headbands like a halo too.

Hard Worker

Work ethic is very important in life. We are instilling it early in Michael. He worked so hard at helping us unload the mulch.

Hello Old Friend

I stopped updating the blog, because I figured no one wanted to read about me complaining about the weather day in and day out. Because that is what I do.
Okay, so New England had the worst winter EVER, and I know now what 27" of snow falling in one night looks like...but a girl needs a break. I'm still waiting for that break, given that it is almost June and it was only 53 today.

But anyway.

Kate turned 6 at the beginning of the month. She is an awesome kid. Such a caring and loving big sister and daughter. We love her.

Michael will be 4 in September, and asks every day if he can go to kindergarten and Disney World. We love him too.
